Tomoyuki Sugano has posted a 3.98 ERA this season for a Colorado team that's one of the weakest rosters in the NL — a real accomplishment for a pitcher working half his games at Coors Field. The vulnerability is the long ball. Sugano has surrendered 11 home runs across 58 innings, and that rate gets expensive fast against a Cubs lineup sitting at 34-32 with enough pop to do damage at altitude. Colin Rea has been inconsistent this season, but he doesn't need to be sharp to beat a Colorado club that just dropped back-to-back home games to Milwaukee by a combined 19-5 margin. The Rockies are 27-42. They've improved from last year's franchise disaster, but this is still a team built to lose games like this one. Back the Cubs tonight.
