Arizona at Boston

Arizona's Mitch Bratt takes the mound for one of his best turns of the year: seven shutout innings and nine strikeouts against a Padres lineup that's been in the thick of the wild-card race, and six more solid innings against Colorado his last time out. Boston counters with a staff that's been the best of the four teams in this series all season, a 3.52 team ERA that ranks among the stingiest in the league. The Red Sox haven't found their groove offensively of late, batting under .240 with an OPS south of .700 over the past week, and that cold stretch is the bigger factor here than anything Arizona is doing. The Diamondbacks' own offense has actually heated up, but their pitching staff has been just as sharp, a sub-3.00 mark over the same week that mirrors what Bratt is carrying into tonight. Two capable rotations, a clearly elite pitching staff in Boston, and a road lineup that's been streaky rather than consistently dangerous. This lines up as a lower-scoring night at Fenway.
