Detroit Tigers vs Kansas City Royals

Detroit has won the past six meetings dating to last season, and the Tigers will go for the series sweep today following a 3-1 victory on Saturday for their sixth UNDER in eight games. Detroit has been getting exceptional pitching as it has allowed only 2.63 runs in that span, and Kansas City is scoring just 2.86 runs per game this season. The Tigers won on a three-run homer by suddenly red-hot Spencer Torkelson, and the bullpen came through again with two scoreless innings to save the game for Casey Mize. Today it is Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal on the mound, and he has not allowed a run his past two outings while giving up eight hits with 15 strikeouts. Kansas City has lost six in a row and it is playing its 10th consecutive road game. The Royals are 7-3 UNDER their past 10 games while scoring more than three runs once in that span. The Kansas City Royals are having trouble scoring runs. They are off to a miserable 8-13 start, scoring just 62 runs in 21 games, or just about three per contest. They have been holding ground because of their solid pitching, and this afternoon, they will go with their ace, Seth Lugo. Lugo is capable of shutting down any opponent. The Tigers are sitting on top of the AL Central at 12-8 on the season. Casey Mize has done a great job on the mound, holding back opponents' offenses. Mize has a 3.60 ERA through 4 starts, and I think both pitchers will have the upper hand in this one. Make the play UNDER the total.

The Kansas City Royals have hit a bump in the road. They were swept in New York in their last series, and lost the opener here in Detroit. The Royals' offense has been horrible as they have scored just 59 total runs in their first 20 games, or just 2.9 per game. The pitching has done its part as opponents are averaging fewer than four runs a game. Detroit is going to go as far as its pitching can take it. The Tigers have allowed 68 runs so far, or about 3.4 a game. Both these teams have gotten solid pitching all season. The Royals' last 12 games have seen 10 of them fail to get to the total.
