Boston Red Sox vs Pittsburgh Pirates

Pittsburgh has its best pitcher starting today as it looks to salvage a game from this three-game series. Josh Winckowski has made one start against the Pirates and it didn't go well as he finished with a 10.80 ERA and a 1.60 WHIP. This likely will be a bullpen game for the Red Sox as Winckowski has pitched fewer than three innings in five appearances this season. Pittsburgh's bullpen has a six saves and a 1.27 WHIP, but the Pirates have been struggling to score runs their past five games. Despite that, the Pirates enter with a better record in this game and Boston has been up and down to start the season 11-10. Boston isn't playing well either as they are 4-7 in their last 11 games, despite 10 of those 11 being at Fenway. Pirates go with Mitch Keller, who is far under the radar. His first 92 big-leauge decisions saw him at 35-57, but over his last 12 he is 9-3. Opponents have totaled just 43 runs in the 12 games or 3.6 per contest. The Sox are just 2-9 in Kutter Crawford's last 11 decisions, and opponents have plated 59 runs in the 11 games, or 5.4 per contest. I loke Pittsburgh in this one.

Pittsburgh has won the first two games of the series and Bryan Reynolds hit his third homer in two games as the Pirates won 4-1 on Tuesday night. Boston has allowed 34 runs in five games and tonight's starter, Corey Kluber, gave up five runs on six hits in 3 1/3 innings against Baltimore on Thursday. The Pirates have hit five home runs the first two games of the series and the Red Sox have given up 12 round-trippers already in just five games this season. Boston has lost 12 of 15 interleague home games against teams with winning records and the Red Sox have lost 20 of 26 overall after scoring two or fewer runs their previous game. Pittsburgh got its second win of the season as it defeated the Red Sox 7-6 on Monday when Bryan Reynolds hit a pair of solo home runs and the Pirates survived a five-run first inning by Boston. Roansy Contreras will make his first start of 2022 after finishing 5-5 with a 3.79 ERA and 1.27 WHIP for Pittsburgh last season. Nick Pivetta had a terrible April in 2022 as he was 0-3 with a 8.27 ERA and .297 opponent batting average and he finished the season 10-12 with a 4.56 ERA. The Red Sox have allowed 30 runs their first four games and it will be difficult for the offense to keep up with it. Boston has lost five of its past six interleague home games.
