Top pick: #1 (MISS SMARTY PANTS) - Home-bred daughter of "Smarty Jones" come north from Gulfstream where she was a very impressive maiden winner going 7 furlongs to win by 3 1/2 lengths in 1:22.40, a real fast time. Filly moves way up in this spot but looks like the type that should have no trouble handling this trip and she draws the rail. The top choice in a contentious race.
2nd pick: #6 (Niji's Grand Girl) - She's run well in all her starts (7-2-2-3) and will move back to the dirt after a solid third-place finish here in the $105K "Florida Oaks" on the grass a month ago. Last fall she just missed in a G3 stakes at Delta Downs at this trip to a very talented runner and she looks all set for a big effort today.
3rd pick: #9 (Her Smile) - She set the pace in the Florida Oaks here a month ago and tired in the last furlong to finish fourth of 12, beaten just under three lengths. Race was her first in three months and broke a three race winning streak. Working fast since and daughter of "Include" moves back to the dirt this afternoon.
4th pick: #8 (Royal Delta) - She hasn't run since winning her debut at Belmont last fall by a dozen lengths in a race at this mile distance. The second-place finisher that day broke her maiden next out so this filly's performance was indeen an eye-opener. Daughter of "Empire Maker" is in the barn of "Hall of Fame" trainer Bill Mott and has been working fast and frequently on the deep surface at Payson park for her return. If she repeats the "figure" earned in her only start. they're all in trouble.
