Gelding finished second at this level going 8.5 furlongs June 27 at Belmont and his lone win came at this 9 furlong distance March 17 at Aqueduct. He has a great post. Irad Ortiz Jr. staying aboard, and I give this $50K purchase a slight edge.
2nd pick: #6 (Curlin's Night) (9-2) - A 4yo gelding by 'Curlin'm he ships up from Maryland where he's been competitive in three straight starts, twice on the dirt and once on the grass. He's been much improved since Jeremiah Englehart claimed him for $12,500 at Gulfstream Jan. 30 and it's noted that leading rider Jose Ortiz takes the mount.
3rd pick: #3 (Gray Nile) (2-1) - Kentucky shipper is taking a big drop in class for this attempt. 5yo broke his maiden here at this distance a year ago in his only previous try at it in his only local appearance.
4th pick: #5 (Inclunation) (15-1) - Colt is facing winners for the first time and does so fresh off a Mertkan Kantarmaci claim, a 23% winning angle. He won by a 1/2 length going a mile for a $20K tag June 28 at Belmont and is bred to like this longer trip. Think he's capable of getting a share at a big price.
