He had just missed in his previous pair, and trainer Jeff Mullins has this stalker conservatively spotted in his first facing winners. Gets a slight edge.
2nd pick: #10 (Stormin Trick) (5-2) - Very fast from the gate, he's dropping way down in class, and is the morning line and probable favorite. He went wire-to-wire here going five furlongs for a $20K tag March 20 to get his maiden win. It was his first race in eight months and earned him the highest Byer 'figure' any of these has reached. He tired after setting a pressured pace May 6 facing high-level starter-allowance foes. He's worked fast twice since, drops way down, and is a serious looking win candidate.
3rd pick: #5 (Clude) (6-1) - One of two entered by trainer Doug O'Neill, he's another that dropping in class. Stalker is racing third back of a long layoff, and he worked a bullet three furlongs from the gate at Los Alamitos June 8.
4th pick: #3 (Gathering Evidence) (8-1) - NEW gelding is the second of the O'Neill pair. He has a bit of speed and is dropping back down. May hold down a share with a bit of improvement.
5th pick: #6 (Redneck Crazy) (5-1) - This is his eighth attempt at getting his second win. Stalker has finished withing range in most and has checked in 2nd in two of those. An exacta player with his best.
