He did so at Del Mar for a $40,000 claiming price going 6.5 furlongs. Competitive in 6-of-8 since returning from a nine month layoff last March, five-year-old was sprinting on conventional dirt for the first time and stalker draws a ground saving post.
2nd pick: #5 (Caray) (3-1) - Four-year-old went gate-to-wire for his maiden win here going 6 furlongs for a $40K tag Jan. 5. By far a career best, I'm not sure it's repeatable as he was 13.5 lengths behind 'Conqueror' in his previous race. Barn brings him back quickly and he's dangerous with anything approaching his latest.
3rd pick: #4 (Mr Twinery) (2-1) - Lightly-raced 4-year-old was another wire-to-wire maiden winner last out. Only his second start, he scored by almost 3 lengths going 6 furlongs at Los Al Dec. 14. Heavily bet (7-5), it was his first since debuting here last May. Must be left in the mix.
4th pick: #2 (Quality Line) (5-1) - Stretch runner has gone 4-0-1-2 at this level since early August. Working fast for his first since Nov. 26, he's already proven competitive facing winners which the top three selections haven't done yet. Late threat.
