Bet this race at Diamond SportsTop pick: #12 (ARCHER CITY) (2-1) - Filly is one of two entered by trainer Bret Calhoun and the pair of first-time starters race uncoupled. Texas bred is working very fast for her debut and Calhoun (22% first out) has his main rider C.J. McMahon aboard.
2nd pick: #7 (Flatter Up) (3-1) - The second of the Calhoun fillies, daughter of 'Flatter' sold for $125,000 as a Keeneland Sales Yearling 12 months ago. Working fast, her recent local drills include a pair of five furlong bullets from the starting gate. I could just have easily made her the top choice.
3rd pick: #11 (Ease It On Over) (8-1) - Nice debut here Sept. 8 saw her chase a quick pace while wide, then hold gamely to check in fourth of 11, beaten just over two lengths. From a capable barn Francisco Bravo is 20% second time out, daughter of the useful 'Shackleford' can factor at a square price.
4th pick: #10 (Aunt Kiddo) (20-1) - Home bred raced evenly when debuting in the same Sept. 8 contest as 'Ease It On Over.' She was five lengths behind that filly and needs to do better in this spot.
5th pick: #1 (Denali Rose) (15-1) - She tired while wide debuting in the same Sept. 8 race as both 'Ease It On Over' and 'Aunt Kiddo'. Daughter of 'Stay Thirsty' tired while splitting that pair and she moves from the 11-post to the rail.
