The figure earned is the highest of any in their last starts and this stalker should receive a fast and/or contested pace to track. I give him a slight edge.
2nd pick: #3 (Coal Front) (3-1) - He's one of two entered by trainer Todd Pletcher and the pair race uncoupled. A winner of 7-of-10 overall, he has excellent early speed and is on a track that favors that front end style. He tired last out after setting a quick and pressured pace in the Met Mile (G1) June 8 at Belmont and is major threat to lead every step in this contest.
3rd pick: #7 (Bal Harbour) (7-2) - The second of the Pletcher pair, he finished second here in the Phil Iselin Stakes (G3) June 22 but was 4 lengths behind 'Monongahela' in that contest. Consistent sort draws a wide post and he'll have to step it up to handle either of the top two selections.
4th pick: #2 (Lemonade Thursday) (6-1) - A very lightly raced 4yo, he makes his stakes debut after a sharp local win facing much weaker June 22. A career best effort last out, it came in his first start in eight months. Believe a minor award at a square price is the best he can hope for in this tough spot.
