The 3yo finished second when debuting at this level in an 'off the turf' contest at the Fair Grounds March 3. A NEW gelding, he has the rail, blinkers on, and gets top billing.
2nd pick: #4 (Chop Chop Charlie) (6-1) - The second of the pair from trainer Fauchuex, even paced type has finished fourth in five of his last seven starts on the grass. He fits on figures, and despite moving up in class, I believe this field is much softer than he's been facing in claimers.
3rd pick: #5 (Solid Red) (6-1) - Colt has finished second in three of his last five on the dirt and speed/stalker will be racing on the grass for the first time. Home bred ran second here at this level in an 'off the turf' contest April 25 and earned a career best figure in his first start in two months. A win candidate at a square price.
4th pick: #8 (Applewood) (4-1) - Stretch runner has been freshened has been freshened up since March 24 when he missed by a 'head' going a mile on the Fair Grounds dirt for a $12,500 tag. Claimed that day by Ron Matthieu, he moves him to the grass while moving him up in class. He missed by less that 2 lengths for a $30K tag on the turf Jan. 27 and is a late threat in this spot.
