(# 7) WIN WITH BECK - An attempt to turn him into a marathon runner has failed. He continues his regrouping process off a two-month freshening. Turning back from 11 furlongs on March 1, he lacked speed in a swiftly run contest. He made up ground without threatening in a very useful effort. Facing similar rivals on Sept. 4, at Saratoga, he showed speed on a closers track while racing towards the deeper inside. A one-run closer, he will have to have help on the front end to be sure, but horses like Go Fernando Go, Ryan is Flying and Tergesti, appear to be near-the-lead types, and a contentious pace could help soften things up. He reunites with Arroyo and has worked twice since.

( # 1) GO FERNANDO GO - Is the speed closest to the rail, and certainly can win if the top pick fails to fire. He rode a speed track en route to victory on Jan 6, his lone win around two turns, and can buckle under pressure if hounded on the lead.
