In shape, he meets a weak field while his task was made easier by the late scratch of the morning line favorite #7 'Starry Messenger.'
2nd pick: #1 (Mr. Charles) (3-1) - He did not break cleanly here as the favorite in the same Jan. 27 contest as 'Southern Union.' Five-year-old ran evenly once in stride and finished two lengths behind that rival. He has the rail and gets a rider switch in this spot. Win candidate.
3rd pick: #2 (Clear Surprise) (6-1) - Blinkers go on lightly-raced 4-year-old who wasn't that far of both 'Southern Union' and 'Mr. Charles' last out. He's racing into shape following a year's layoff and looks set for a competitive try.
4th pick: #3 (Ben's Miracle) (12-1) - Longshot is racing third back off an 11 month layoff. He hasn't shown much in either return start, but earlier in his career he had efforts that make him a threat if repeatable.
