Tony Finau vs. Max Homa

Max Homa's been quietly building something worth paying attention to. He's made six of his last seven cuts, and at the RBC Canadian Open, he gained strokes in every major statistical category, a sign that the swing and putter are finally rowing in the same direction. This isn't new ground for him, either. He finished T-5 at TPC Deere Run last year, just two shots off the lead, on a course that rewards exactly the kind of precise, birdie-hunting game he plays best. Tony Finau has had his moments, too, including a tied fourth at the U.S. Open, where he shot four straight rounds of even par on a brutal setup, but outside of that one week, his season has been thin. Both players are looking to turn a rough stretch into something real, but Homa's the one with the specific course history here and the more encouraging trend line right now. Homa is the play.
