Max Homa vs. Jason Day

Homa's game has real signs of life again. He nearly closed out the John Deere Classic a couple of weeks back, settling for a runner-up that also punched his ticket into this field, and he flashed the same form with a top-10 finish at the Masters earlier in the year. That's two markedly different tests where his ball-striking held up under pressure. Day's résumé is deeper on paper, but his iron play has been the soft spot in his game for most of this season, and a golf course that demands precision into firm, contoured greens is a tough place to hide that flaw. Birkdale rewards the player who's controlling his irons right now, not the one leaning on career highlights from a decade ago. At essentially even odds, I'll take the player with the more recent proof of form. Back Homa.
