Emiliano Grillo left Minnesota in good shape, finishing inside the top 10 at the 3M Open after sitting just three back entering the final round. It's a nice line on the résumé, but it came at a wide-open, birdie-friendly track that plays nothing like what's waiting in Detroit. This year's composite Ross layout got a real facelift for its farewell playing — new greens, tightened bunkering, a reworked irrigation system — turning a historically generous test into one that punishes anything loose off the tee, especially early in the week. That's a tougher adjustment for a player coming off a scoring carnival than for someone built around control and precise iron play, which is why the two-shot cushion here is more usable than an outright pick would be.
