The 2026 John Deere Classic tees off Thursday, July 2 at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois, and the top of the world ranking is largely absent. Scottie Scheffler isn’t in the field. Neither are most of the players who finished the Travelers Championship inside the top 10. Only eight OWGR top-50 players teed it up this week, which makes this one of the more wide-open fields on the calendar and one of the better spots on the schedule to find value against the board.

Course Preview: TPC Deere Run
TPC Deere Run is a par-71 layout stretching 7,327 yards along the Rock River, designed by D.A. Weibring and Chris Gray. It’s one of the shorter, more forgiving tracks on Tour. Fairways average 36 yards wide, and the course ranked as the eighth-easiest on Tour last season with a 69.42 scoring average. Winning scores have gone lower than -20 in nine of the last twelve editions, and Davis Thompson’s -28 in 2024 stands as the tournament record.
👉 The takeaway for bettors: this course rewards iron precision and hot putters over length off the tee. Bombers don’t have a structural edge here. Scramblers and wedge specialists do
Best Bets and Betting Angles
🏌️Ben Griffin and Chris Gotterup (co-favorites, +1500) are the public plays, and both have legitimate cases. Griffin’s iron play has trended back toward his 2025 form, with a podium finish at the Charles Schwab and a quiet top-10 at the Travelers. Gotterup already has two wins this season. Neither price offers an edge — you’re paying for the name recognition, not finding value.
🏌️Denny McCarthy (+200 Top 20) is the sharper angle. He’s finished T11, T7, T6, and T6 in his last four starts at this course, and he just carded a 66-65 weekend at the Travelers in a much tougher field than he’ll see this week. Elite putting on a course built for putters is a repeatable formula, and the market hasn’t caught up to how well this course fits him.
🏌️Jordan Spieth (+3300) is the sentimental pick, a two-time winner here in 2013 and 2015. But he was nearly last at the Travelers last week and hasn’t shown the form to trust right now. Course history matters less than current form, and right now his form says fade.
🏌️ J.T. Poston (+2200) has the talent, coming off a Memorial Tournament win and a T4 at the U.S. Open. A final-round 12 at the Travelers last week is the kind of collapse that tends to linger into the next start. Worth watching how he opens Thursday before betting him outright.
