Each college football season there are a few teams that really surprise, and a pair of them meet here. Western Kentucky has quickly built a competitive program, off to a 5-1 start to the season. The Hilltoppers are riding a 15-straight ATS winning streak, but the problem is that almost all of it was as a dog. Only once this season have they been a bigger favorite during the streak. A lot of small conference teams go out early looking for a big paycheck and get eaten alive by big teams, but come ready for conference play. That wasn't quite the case for UL Monroe who won at Arkansas in OT by 3, lost at Auburn by 3, and had Baylor on the ropes at home before bowing by 5. This is a 4-2 club that is both good and dangerous, as well as tested. Kolton Browning has passed for 1,606 yards with 14 TDs and 3 INTs on the season, as half of the Warhawks’ opponents have been from BCS Conferences, with two on the road. Western Kentucky is good, but the streak is ruling the line. UL Monroe is simply better. All good things must come to an end. Take UL Monroe in this one.

Since joining the FBS, Western Kentucky has gone 1-32 vs. D1 competition. I was on them last week vs. Florida International but that was due to the fact that they were getting 9 points. They covered that spread, losing the game by a touchdown. The Hilltoppers have been underdogs of 39.5, 24.5 , 13.5, 27.5 and 9 points in their five games this season. Now all of a sudden this team should be favored? Granted, they are facing a Louisiana Monroe team here that isn't very good. But, Monroe at least has some experience finding the win column, having won two games already this season. ULM is best when facing really bad teams. The Warhawks are 19-8 ATS in their last 27 on the road vs. losing teams. That includes a 13-3 ATS mark vs. the worst of the worst (teams at .250 or worse). I like the better team getting points.
