Virginia was trounced by Illinois and won against Richmond and Old Dominion so the 2-1 mark is misleading as this team is going to struggle. Virginia is 0-3 ATS while Syracuse is 3-0 ATS, and I think the form holds for this one. Make the play on Syracuse.

The Virginia Cavaliers are a disappointing 1-4 to start the season. Although the schedule has been pretty strong, there are certainly reasons to be concerned. The defense has not been as good as expected, and what is worse is that they are not forcing any turnovers, as the Cavaliers defense has not turned their opponent over in four of their five games. Complicating things is a limited offense that has been turnover-prone themselves, committing 10 through five games. This all was perhaps foreshadowed in their game at home vs. William & Mary that saw them have to scramble to win 35-29 as a -22 point favorite. The Tribe gained two yards fewer than Virginia in that contest. Syracuse started 3-0, and played LSU tough before losing by 10, and seemed to be disengaged last week vs. South Florida and it cost them. I think that loss will have their eyes opened wide for this one. Virginia Coach London is 0-9 ATS as a home favorite of -7 or less as coach of Virginia. Both teams are vulnerable to the passing game, but Syracuse pretty much has the edge everywhere else, and is in a good spot here. Take the points on Syracuse.
