Rutgers Scarlet Knights vs Virginia Tech Hokies Point Spread Picks

Virginia Tech has bounced back nicely after an opening week loss to Vanderbilt and the Hokies have won two in a row, including a win and cover against Old Dominion last week. The Hokies won 37-17 and covered as a 16-point favorite as Kyron Drones passed for 176 yards and a TD and ran for another 117 yards and a score. Bhayshul Tuten rushed for 115 yards on 21 carries and Jaylin Lane caught seven passes for 106 yards and a TD. Virginia Tech returned all 11 starters on offense so it shouldn't be a big surprise that it is putting up these big numbers. This is a revenge game for the Hokies, who lost last year's meeting 35-16 early in the season. Rutgers has beaten two cupcakes in Howard and Akron and this will be its first true test this season. The Scarlet Knights lost their final four conference games in 2023 and they have lost eight of their past nine road games. Rutgers also is 0-7 in Week 4 and Virginia Tech has won five of seven home games. Take Virginia Tech on the moneyline.

Rutgers really struggled when they joined the Big 10. They just were not even competitive. Their best years were under Coach Schiano and they brought him back. He is now in his fourth year and progress has been made, but this program still has a long way to go. Virginia Tech is 1-1 and they were unable to run the ball vs. Purdue in a seven-point loss. Rutgers has a good run-stop unit, but they have not been good vs. the pass. That provides an opening for the Virginia Tech passing game, as they have struggled running the ball. I looked at Rutgers last game and saw the same line as this game, but that was Rutgers facing Temple. Is Temple as good as Virginia Tech? I think this is an overreaction by the market, and I will play on Virginia Tech.
