Wake Forest opened with a 38-16 win over Akron, an offense that moved the ball but also leaned heavily on possession time to keep the game under control. Purdue did the same at home, beating Indiana State 44-19 while dominating time of possession. Both teams profile as ball-control units that would rather grind out first downs than trade scores, and mid-range totals with two possession-heavy offenses on both sides are a number I've had success fading. Purdue's defense gave up nineteen points to an FCS opponent, which isn't ideal, but Wake Forest's approach on the road figures to mirror what got it here: methodical drives, fewer possessions overall, and a lower ceiling on the total than either offense's raw scoring numbers from Week 1 would suggest. Neither team showed the kind of explosive, quick-strike offense that pushes totals well past the number, and I expect a similar shape here. The UNDER is the read today.
