UNLV was run off the field two weeks ago at North Texas, giving up 44 points in a spread I had UNLV covering that never got competitive, and this defense hasn't found its footing since, allowing at least 21 points in every game it's played. Akron's own defense has been just as porous, allowing at least 38 points in two of its three games, with the only clean outing coming against an FCS opponent that never threatened. Jackson Arnold is throwing the ball more than 27 times a game for UNLV without much to show for it in the end zone, only two touchdowns on the year, but the volume alone keeps drives moving against a defense this generous. Akron's Cibastian Broughton is a dual threat who's already accounted for four passing touchdowns and pushed his rushing total past 170 yards, production that's kept the Zips competitive even in a losing season. Neither defense has shown it can get consistent stops, and both offenses have found enough to move the ball even in their losses. This is the kind of matchup where two shaky units on the same side of the ball do more damage to the number than either offense does on its own. The OVER is the play today.
