Indiana's 13-0 season was built on more than an elite defense, and it's worth remembering the offense put up nearly 42 points a game in its own right under Curt Cignetti. That attack doesn't need a shaky opponent to keep rolling, and North Texas' defense allowed just under 25 points a game last year – solid, but not the caliber that slows down a Hoosier offense playing at this level. The flip side matters just as much. North Texas averaged nearly 45 points a game itself under Neal Brown in his second season, one of the most explosive attacks in the country, and Indiana's defense built its reputation against a Big Ten slate that didn't feature anything close to that kind of tempo or scoring output. A historically stout defense facing an offense unlike anything on last year's schedule is exactly the spot where a number built on reputation can miss. Both teams also open the year still working out situational execution for the first time in live competition, which tends to help an offense that already knows how to score more than it helps a defense adjusting on the fly. Two potent attacks in the same building rarely stay under wraps. Give me the OVER on this one.
