Old Dominion enters the season off a 10-3 finish and a Cure Bowl win, with an offense that averaged 32 points a game a year ago under Ricky Rahne, and tonight it gets to open at home against a Norfolk State defense that allowed better than 35 points a game in a 1-11 season. That's one of the worst defensive numbers in the sport, and there's no reason a jump in competition level fixes it overnight. Michael Vick's team simply doesn't have the pieces on that side of the ball to slow down a Monarchs offense that was already one of the more productive groups at its level last year. Old Dominion's own defense, which held opponents to under 19 points a game, doesn't need to be tested much here either, freeing the offense to play fast and lean into whatever advantage presents itself rather than sitting on a lead. Games this lopsided tend to see the favorite score early and often, then keep the offense rolling into the second half once backups take over, and neither phase does much to keep this total in check. This total goes OVER.
