Nicholls State at Kansas State

Kansas State moved on from Chris Klieman after his retirement, but the offense doesn't have to relearn anything, since new head coach Collin Klein was already running that side of the ball as offensive coordinator last season when the group averaged better than 29 points a game. That continuity matters against an FCS opponent in Nicholls, which is breaking in its own new coach in Tommy Rybacki after a 4-8 season and a defense that allowed nearly 25 points a game, a level down from what it faces tonight. Kansas State's defense wasn't a shutdown unit last year either, giving up nearly 27 points a game, which leaves the door open for Nicholls' offense, modest as it was at just over 18 points a game, to add a few scores of its own rather than getting shut out. A home favorite with real offensive continuity against a defense already prone to breakdowns, paired with a defense on the other side that isn't airtight, gives this total multiple ways to climb well past the posted number.
