NC State at Virginia

Virginia and NC State begin their seasons in an ACC matchup that was supposed to open in Brazil before a relocation to Charlottesville was announced in June, adding a layer of preparation disruption most Week 0 games do not have to deal with. Virginia arrives off the best season in program history, an 11-3 finish built on a defense that held opponents to 18.6 points a game, the identity NC State has to solve first against a rebuilt lineup of its own. The Wolfpack were a middle-of-the-pack outfit in 2025, scoring 28.2 and allowing 27.5, numbers from a team still finding its footing week to week, and that inconsistency will not be fixed by a season opener against a proven defense on the road. Early-season conference games have a track record of playing UNDER the number, teams leaning on situational football and field position rather than opening the playbook before either staff has even seen its own personnel in a real game.
