Hawaii beat Stanford 23-20 the last time these two opened a season together, and this year's rematch arrives with the Cardinal breaking in a brand-new coaching staff. Stanford finished 4-8 last season and has now installed Tavita Pritchard as head coach for his first game running the program today. New coaching staffs install new systems, and true season openers are where that shows up most: timing routes, blocking assignments, and offensive rhythm rarely look sharp in the first game of a new regime, no matter how clean fall camp went. Hawaii won nine games last year, capped by a Hawaii Bowl win over California, its first winning season since 2020, but the Rainbow Warriors are also flying across the Pacific for a true road opener against a program that looks nothing like the one they beat a year ago.
