Alabama at Kentucky

Alabama has looked like one of the best teams in the country through one week, running away from East Carolina in a 48-10 win and coming in ranked in the top fifteen nationally. Kentucky handled its own business at home, beating Youngstown State 45-13, but that came against an FCS opponent that couldn't slow anybody down. Five separate systems line up on this total, and the throughline is the same: two teams that prefer controlling the ball and playing complete games rather than trading scores in bunches, in an early-season conference matchup where neither side has faced a true offensive test yet. Alabama is going to be the significantly better team on the field, and a significant favorite on the road has every incentive to lean on the run and protect the football rather than push the pace once the game is in hand. Kentucky's path to staying competitive runs through ball control, not a shootout.
