The Bulldogs have a strong balance on offense with senior QB Will Rogers (5 TDs, no picks) and senior RB Jo'Quavious Marks (325 yards, 6.4 yards per carry). After losing last September to LSU, Mississippi State won the next three easily, including a 42-24 rout of No. 17 Texas A&M. South Carolina has one win over Furman and two double-digit losses to North Carolina and Georgia. The distance between the top and the bottom of the SEC this year may not be as great as we have seen in seasons past. The opening week saw the SEC finish at just 7-7 SU. A perspective of that shows the SEC at 93-20 SU the last nine years including 13-1 last year. One of the losing teams was Mississippi State who somehow blew a 17-0 halftime lead vs. lowly South Alabama at home. It quickly became obvious where the problem was - no more Dak Prescot. The Bulldogs' passing attack generated just 4.6 yards per attempt, and zero second half points. South Carolina is off its worse season since 1999, but while Miss State was imploding in the second half, the Gamecocks were rallying. South Carolina found themselves shutout in the first half at Vanderbilt 10-0, and returned the favor in the second half, shutting down the Commodores. The winner was a 55-yard FG by Elliot Fry with seconds remaining. That big leg should play a key role again as both these teams are suspect on offense, and the price is too high on the home team. Miss State has no passing game, and SC held Vandy to 73 yards in the air. SC won despite a -2 in turnovers as the defense stepped up big time, and Miss State has few answers on offense.
