Navy got its first win under new head coach Brian Newberry as the Midshipmen defeated Wagner 24-0 while holding the FCS school to only 227 yards while Navy gained 408 total yards, including 245 yards rushing. QB Tai Lavatai threw for 161 yards and a touchdown and ran for 65 yards as he was the majority of the Navy offense. Newberry is the former defensive coordinator for the Midshipmen and they return nine defensive starters. Navy has gone UNDER its first two games, including by 25.5 points against Wagner. The Midshipmen are 8-1 UNDER their past nine as road underdogs. Memphis went UNDER by 17 points while defeating Arkansas State 37-3 although the Red Wolves appear to be one of the worst teams in the country as they were annihilated 73-0 by Oklahoma the week before. Memphis' season opener was against Bethune-Cookman so Navy actually will be its toughest test yet.
