Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets vs Miami Florida Hurricanes Point Spread Picks

The Miami Hurricanes are 9-0 and in the first playoff rankings came in at #4. The top four teams get a bye so every game is meaningful from here on out. The Miami offense is the best in the country as they average 7.5 yards per play, which is #1. The Hurricanes have scored 50 or more points in a game five times, more than any team this season. Georgia Tech ranks #46 but their offense is no match for Miami's. Miami also has limited opponents to 5.0 yards per play, so Miami has had a 2.5 yard advantage per play over Georgia Tech. They are also 0.7 yards per play better on defense. These numbers suggest a 17-20 point win, and I'm backing Miami. 

Georgia Tech got gut-punched last week losing at home to Bowling Green, 38-27, as a 21-point favorite. Now they head out on the road to face high-flying (and unbeaten) Miami. Georgia Tech's defense ranks 121st in yards given up (462 per game), 101st on third down (44.23%), and 108th in points surrendered (35.3 per game). A college football team like G-Tech that gave up 37+ points in the last game is 69-131 ATS versus an opponent that comes off two straight victories by 28+ points. Miami Florida junior QB Tyler Van Dyke (11 TDs, one pick) has only been sacked twice while the ground attack averages 6.4 yards per carry anchored by RB Henry Parrish Jr. (331 yards, 7.9 ypc). Van Dyke threw for 374 yards in a 48-33 upset of No. 23 Texas A&M. The offense is ninth in the nation in yards (495.7), while the defense is 17th in total yards allowed and 14 in points given up (14.3 per game). And CFB home favorites with an 80% or higher winning percentage are 54-19 ATS after going over the total by 21+ points in the last three games. Play Miami Florida. 

Both these teams enter this game at 4-5 on the season, and with each team having three games remaining, it will take two wins to become Bowl eligible so this is a big game. Georgia Tech averages just 17 PPG on the season and have been out-gained by 88 yards a game. The Yellow Jackets are also getting out-scored by 10.6 PPG. Miami, Fla. despite the same record has been much better than that. The Hurricanes are out-gaining their schedule of opponents by 43 yards a game, and at the same time, they are averaging 12 more snaps a game, while Georgia Tech has a 10-snap deficit per game. That leaves a lot to overcome here for Georgia Tech. Make the play on Miami.
