Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets vs Louisville Cardinals Point Spread Picks

Georgia Tech opened the season with what looked like a huge statement win vs. then #5 ranked Florida St. The Yellow Jackets came away with a 24-21 win over the Seminoles on a neutral field. That win looks so much different now that Florida St. has started 0-3 with additional losses to Memphis and Boston College. The Yellow Jackets have only beaten Georgia St. and VMI since. The one thing Tech has done effectively is play defense as they have held their four opponents to 17.8 PPG. Louisville has not played any significant opponent yet this season and have outscored Jacksonville St. and Austin Peay 111-14. Louisville had a stretch last season holding six of eight opponents to 20 or fewer points, and I think the defense is going to prove to be better this season. Georgia Tech getting too much credit for the Florida St. win, will have a lot more resistence here. Make the play on the UNDER.

Louisville will hope to have a high-powered offense with new coach Jeff Brohm, who had success at Western Kentucky and Purdue, but it will take time to get everyone on the same track. Jack Plummer, who played for Brohm for four years at Purdue and then transferred to California, will be the Louisville starting quarterback. However, three starters are gone from the offensive line and only four full-time offensive starters return. The Cardinals do still have top rusher Jawhar Jordan, who gained 815 yards on 5.7 yards per carry. Georgia Tech hired Brent Key after he coached four of its five wins last year and he is a former offensive coordinator at Alabama. The Yellow Jackets return only five starters on offense with Haynes King the QB after he transferred from Texas A&M. King completed 55.6 percent of his passes with seven TDs and six interceptions last season with the Aggies. Louisville went UNDER its last five games of 2022 and Georgia Tech averaged just 17 points its final six games. Make it a Max Play on the UNDER.

Georgia Tech is still struggling to get into the end zone in coach Geoff Collins' second year at the school as it comes off an ugly, 37-20, loss to Syracuse as a 7.5-point favorite. The Yellow Jackets are averaging only 19.0 points, which is #61 in the country, even while averaging 454 yards per game. The main culprit against the Orange was Jeff Sims' four interceptions. He completed only 13 of 28 for 174 yards and a touchdown. Georgia Tech escaped with a 16-13 over Florida State in the season opener, but then they got blown out by Central Florida before losing to the Orange. Louisville comes off a 23-20 loss at Pittsburgh as QB Malik Cunningham had a bad day, completing just 9 of 21 for 107 yards with a touchdown and three picks. Cunningham was cleared to play this week with no limitations after suffering a head injury against Pitt, and he'll face a much weaker defense here as Georgia Tech is #55 in yards allowed at 441.3 per game. The Cardinals still remember the trouncing they took in 2018 when they lost 66-31 in the last meeting. The Yellow Jackets are 3-13 ATS their last 16 home games and 1-7 ATS as home underdogs. Also, Georgia Tech is 4-14 ATS its last 18 games overall. Take Louisville.

The Louisville offense has suffered considerably trying to replace QB Lamar Jackson, and thus far the Cardinals have been below average both running and passing the ball. The defense has been pretty ordinary as well as it is about average. There is no secret what Georgia Tech is going to do. The Yellow Jackets will be running the triple-option over 80% of the time. Tech has managed 47.3 points per game outside the ACC, but vs. conference opponents just 20 ppg. Louisville has averaged just 15.5 ppg vs. FBS opponents on the season, and I see some strong value on the low end of the total here. Take the UNDER.
