Florida State lost their long term coach, and Willie Taggert has taken over. Through three games Taggert is 1-2, and has yet to record a win vs. an FBS team. They were challenged significantly as a 31-point favorite vs. Samford in a game they won by just 10 points. The Bulldogs out-gained them, and the Seminoles gave up over 500 yards. They couldn't do anything vs. Virginia Tech - failing to get into the end-zone. Last week were beaten by Syracuse using a back-up QB, but worst of all they managed just seven points. They are now scoring five points per game vs. the FBS. Northern Illinois is offensively challenged, but they have already gone against Utah and Iowa, and are allowing just 22 ppg. I don't see the Florida State offense with any kind of an edge here, and a double-digit line offers some pretty good value on the dog. Play the points on Northern Illinois.

It has been a great run for Northern Illinois. This is a team that has won 12 straight games vs. very mediocre competition. They arguably had their toughest game in their first and last games of the season. They pinned with a 1 point loss to Iowa, who won all of three games against FBS teams this season. The Hawkeyes held this offense to 201 yards. They needed overtime to dispatch of Kent State to get here and looked very nervous in the situation, making countless mistakes. Their only other encounter with a BCS conference team was against lowly Kansas who played them within one score and held them to 5.6 yards per play. The offense looks good, but they have not faced anything close to what they will see here from Florida State. The Noles are a top level defensive team, that also has an experienced QB and potent offense. Many wonder if the Noles will show up here? Based on a long history and tradition of Bowl success I would say they do and win this one in a blowout. Play on Florida State.
