The Virginia Tech Hokies are off of back-to-back disappointing seasons, at least by the standard they set. This team had a long run of 10+ win seasons and they hope to get back, but don't think they have the ammunition to do so this season. They had a huge opportunity on the road last week and cashed in beating Ohio State 35-21, although Ohio State is still somewhat a mystery as without their do-all QB, they may not be the team most thought they could be. East Carolina had a big opportunity of their own on the road last week at South Carolina, and were down by a TD with 12 minutes to go before losing by just 10. East Carolina presents trouble with a skilled, high-powered offense, and the Hokies could be feeling the emotional side effects of their big win a week ago. Virginia Tech used to be all but unbeatable at home, but they have carried a losing spread record here in each of the last three seasons. The Pirates come in a lofty 10-1 ATS when following a loss, and will hang tough in this one. Play on East Carolina.
