Connecticut Huskies vs Tulane Green Wave Point Spread Picks

It sure has not been fun being a UConn fan over the last decade as the Huskies have the third worst record of any FBS team over that period. Last year they allowed over 50 points per game and were considered the worst defensive team ever. This team has made a lot of progress but was so far behind it is not showing up in the win column. The line here is five TDs which is just way overdone, as no one wants any part of the Huskies. Tulane is coming off a rather big win as they went to Army who has become a very good team and won last week. Tulane has Memphis on deck so UConn is catching them at a good time. Tulane has only won 11 games by more than 35 points since 1980 (nine vs. FBS teams), the last coming in 2013 vs. an FBS team. Grab the points on UConn.

Tulane is solid defensively, third in the AAC in total defense at 369.6 yards per contest. On offense the Green Wave average 225.6 yards on the ground (#25th in the nation). Tulane moved the ball well against rugged Houston, passing for 241 passing yards on 42 attempts. The Green Wave are 9-4 ATS against a team with a losing record. They face a Connecticut team in disarray, riding a five-game losing streak. The offense hasn't scored a touchdown in the last 10 quarters. UConn gave quarterback Donovan Williams his second straight start last week at Boston College, but the freshman threw three interceptions and the Huskies were limited to 121 yards of offense in the 30-0 loss. The Huskies average 15 points and have been outscored 92-3 in their last three contests. Last week, UConn recorded minus-6 yards on 17 attempts and has gone 42 drives without a touchdown. This matchup has the look of a very ugly game as 1-4 Connecticut will take on 1-4 Tulane. The UConn Huskies have yet to beat a FBS team this season, but they will get their best shot against Tulane. Both of these teams have been killed by sloppy play with Tulane throwing 9 INTs on the season, and UConn's offense has allowed opponents to score 30 points in their last three games. The turning point in this game is the Huskies' defense, which despite having to spend too much time on the field, has been great, limiting opponents to 330 yards per game at #26 in the country, and they have faced BYU and Boise State. I just don't see Tulane being able to move the ball here as the Huskies are allowing just 3.1 yards per carry, and Sherman Badie is going to be keyed on.
