Clemson Tigers vs Georgia Southern Eagles Point Spread Picks

Georgia Southern is unbeaten and rolling after a 31-0 shutout of Charleston Southern, while Clemson's season is off to a stunning start in the wrong direction, a 10-51 blowout loss at LSU that left the Tigers unranked and searching for answers. That's an enormous number to be laying against an FCS-conference team playing loose with nothing to lose, and the money in this market has already been piling onto Georgia Southern's side of the spread far more than the ticket count would suggest. A team that just got run off its own field by 41 points is not the team I want to trust to cover a massive number seven days later, especially at home against a Sun Belt team that just proved it can put a game away early. Clemson may well win outright, but the number is built for a Clemson team that hasn't shown up yet this season, and Georgia Southern only needs to keep it respectable to cash. Take the points with Georgia Southern. I don't expect Clemson to come anywhere near covering this number tonight.

The Tigers have allowed an average of only 16.2 points in their first two games this season against Furman and Texas A&M. The Tigers escaped with a victory over the Aggies last week after A&M scored 13 fourth-quarter points, but were held to 71 rushing yards on 32 carries for the game. Kelly Bryant and Trevor Lawrence combined for 17-of-26 passing for Clemson with two touchdowns and 298 yards. Clemson is credited by most observers as having the best defensive line in the country, but the secondary needs to improve after a bad showing against the Aggies. That shouldn't be a problem against the Eagles, who are basically a running team that has averaged only 91.5 passing yards this year. Georgia Southern is allowing only 237.5 total yards per contest.  Clemson is 7-1-1 UNDER its last nine home games and Georgia Southern has gone UNDER seven of its last eight after a win of at least 20 points and it comes off a 34-13 win over Massachusetts.
