The Pittsburgh offense came up big in their opener vs. Kent St. The Panthers struck for 55 points. It was the first time Pitt scored that many points in a game since September of 2021, and before that you have to go all the way back to 2016. The Pittsburgh offense dominated every aspect of the game. Cincinnati managed 38 points against Towson St., but a weak Towson offense put up 20 points on the Bearcats. It is ominous for Cincinnati, who seems to always have a good or great defense, that they allowed an FCS team to score 20 points. No FCS team has scored more than that for at least 10 years. Pittsburgh might give up some points here, but the offense is facing a poor looking Cincinnati defense, and I think the Panthers will out-score them with more opportunities. The Panthers ran for 217 yards and 13 receivers had catches for Pittsburgh and Phil Jurkovec completed 17 of 23 for 214 yards and a touchdown. Pitt's defense led the country in combined defensive TDs and pick sixes the past two years.
