Auburn Tigers vs Mississippi State Bulldogs Point Spread Picks

Mississippi State has won the past two meetings, including 39-33 in overtime in 2022. The Bulldogs won a defensive battle 7-3 over Arkansas last week with neither team breaking the 100-yard mark in passing, and the defense did such a good job that Arkansas relieved its offensive coordinator of his job after the game. Mike Wright took over QB duties for the Bulldogs as Will Rogers is out with an arm injury and he is questionable for this game. Mississippi State is 5-1 ATS its past six games as a road underdog of 3.5-10.0 points. Auburn is 1-5 ATS its past six games following a 28-21 loss to Mississippi on Saturday and the Tigers were outgained 425-275. Payton Thorne was only 9 of 13 for 100 yards against the Rebels as he continues to rotate with Robby Ashford. Auburn is only #123 in the nation is passing yards per game and its three wins this season have been against Massachusetts, California and Samford before losing its next four games. Auburn has a new lease on life after firing HC Bryan Harsin and several assistants. The interim coach is Carnell Williams, who was a star running back for the Tigers in the early 2000s. Williams quickly assembled his own staff and the Tigers will go to work trying to salvage what has been another disappointing season. Auburn catches Mississippi State coming off two losses while scoring only 23 points, and that is very unusual for a Mike Leach-coached squad. The Bulldogs were routed 30-6 by Alabama after losing to Kentucky 27-17, and they then had a bye week. The Bulldogs did not score until the fourth quarter against the Crimson Tide and Will Rogers probably had a tired arm after throwing 60 times and completing 30 for 231 yards with no touchdowns. Auburn is 10-3 ATS its past 13 games after losing by 10-plus points at home and Mississippi State is 1-6 ATS after a bye week. A new coach usually inspires a team, especially for the first few games. Auburn had only 226 yards of offense in a 20-3 loss to Texas A&M as quarterback Bo Nix dropped a ball without being touched, and Micheal Clemons picked it up and ran in for the touchdown to put the game away for the Aggies. Nix completed just 20 of 41 for 153 yards and no TDs with an interception, and the Tigers managed only 73 rushing yards on 2.5 yards per carry. That doesn't bode well coming into this game as Mississippi State has the #20 defense in total yards allowed and #12 in rushing yards allowed. The Bulldogs do come off a 31-28 loss at Arkansas when Dominique Johnson scored on a 4-yard run with 21 seconds left to give the Razorbacks the victory. Will Rogers still had a monster game for Mississippi State, finishing 36 of 48 for 417 yards and 4 TDs.
