Appalachian State is a fine program and no stranger to stepping up in competition. They return quarterback Joey Aguilar, who has two TDs and no interceptions this season after throwing for 33 TDs and only 10 picks last year. The offensive line is very good in running and pass protection. Appalachian State went to No. 17 North Carolina of the ACC one year ago and lost in double-overtime, 40-34, as a +19.5 dog. Two years ago, they won at No. 6 Texas A&M, 17-14, as a +18 underdog. Clemson has a second-year offensive coordinator in Garrett Riley who struggled too often, and a quarterback in Cade Klubnik who has 21 TDs and 12 picks for the Tigers. They got blasted in the opener by Georgia, 34-3, with Klubnik throwing no touchdowns and one interception. Play Appalachian State.

Appalachian State at Clemson
The Clemson Tigers have put together four straight 10 or more win seasons, and there's no reason to think this one will be any different. Perhaps the most difficult man to replace will be the loss of offensive coordinator Chad Morris, now head man at SMU. QB Deshaun Watson missed a lot of time with a finger injury, and a torn ACL last year, and he may be a bit rusty to start the season. Brent Venables came over from Oklahoma to run the struggling Clemson defense in 2012, and last year the Tigers stop unit was #1 in the land. The defense has some losses to overcome, but the talent pool is deep from great recruiting, and Appalachian State simply does not have the tools to do a lot offensively in this game, and finding the end-zone at all could be problematic. Early season, and a QB off several injuries, could limit the playbook here for the Tigers while the defense controls the game. This one stays UNDER.
