The USC basketball program has gone through some turmoil the last year or so, but coach Andy Enfield still managed to have a good recruiting year in addition to having some key veterans coming back. The Trojans opened their season by beating Robert Morris 83-62 and covering as a 19-point favorite. Also, touted freshman Kevin Porter, Jr. did not disappoint scoring 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting, and junior Nick Rakocevic added 18 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for the Trojans, who shot 52.6 percent from the field and held the Colonials to 34.3 percent. Vanderbilt lost three starters from last year's 12-20 squad, but the Commodores did win its opener, 92-79, over Winthrop as Darius Garland scored a team-leading 24 points and Simosola Shittu added 18 points and 10 rebounds.
