Illinois at UNLV

December 9, 2017
img11:59 PM Eastern

Illinois has excellent balance and a dynamite backcourt. Junior Aaron Jordan leads the nation in three-point shooting (62.2 percent, 23-of-37) along with top-scorer junior Leron Black (14.8 points per game). Illinois likes to run, plus is #44 in the nation in rebounding. Meanwhile the Illini defense ranks #12 nationally in turnover rate, forcing turnovers on 25.4 percent of opponent possessions. Illini coach Brad Underwood is 22-5 ATS after playing a game as favorite. They face a UNLV squad that has dropped two out of the last three, allowing 77 and 91 points in the defeats. Illinois played here in 2013 and won allowing 59 points, winning the rebound battle and holding the Rebels to 37.5% shooting, so getting the Big 10 team as a dog is a big bonus. Play Illinois.

UNLV vs. Illinois

December 17, 2011
img5:00 PM Eastern

The UNLV Runnin' Rebels don't get the notoriety of the major conference teams, but that certainly doesn't mean they are not equipped to play against them and win. The Rebels at 10-2, certainly proved that when they took on then No. 1 North Carolina on a neutral site, soundly beating the Heels by 10 points. Illinois is the sexy team in this matchup at 10-0 on the season, but their only test was vs. a Gonzaga team that is a bit less than what they usually are this season, so UNLV will be the best team they have faced all year. The public is buying into the appeal of backing the Illini with their unbeaten record as well over 60% are backing them. The Illini have been futile as a neutral-court favorite posting a 1-10 ATS mark in their last 11. Go with UNLV here.

Illinois at UNLV

I don't think the oddsmakers got this one right. It is rare to see a conference not among the big six posted as a favorite vs. a major conference team, especially when they managed to finish third in their own conference. Illinois finished tied for fourth in a much stronger conference from top to bottom. It isn't only what Illinois did in the Big-10 it is also what they did in a tough out-of-conference schedule. That performance included wins vs. Gonzaga, Maryland and North Carolina, and an overtime loss to Texas. UNLV was 0-4 vs. the pair of MWC teams BYU and San Diego State that are the caliber of Big-10 teams. Illinois covers here.
