Fairfield Stags vs Old Dominion Monarchs Point Spread Picks

Old Dominion has won five of its last seven and comes off two wins over Richmond and Bowling Green. And the Falcons were held to a .302 shooting percentage while Brandon Stith led the Monarchs with 21 points and 11 rebounds. ODU is holding opponents to just a .382 field goal percentage as coach Jeff Jones continues to use defense and rebounding to wear down opponents. Fairfield has lost five of its last seven games and is shooting 42.9 percent overall and only 29.2 percent from 3-point range. It has been a somewhat disappointing start for the Stags, who were picked to finish first in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Old Dominion has covered four of its last five after a win of at least 20 points, and Fairfield is 1-7 ATS its last eight games against teams with winning records dating to last season. The line here says it all and is a true indictor of how the Monarchs, usually at or near the top of the Colonial Conference standings, have fallen. Old Dominion is just 2-10 on the season and is getting the benefit as a team with a good reputation, but they are just 1-6 here on the season. The Fairfield Stags are off of back-to-back 20+ win seasons, are ready to make a run at a third. Old Dominion has really struggled against the Metro Atlantic Conference, where they have taken the donut in their last six at 0-6 ATS. The Stags have a winning pedigree vs. the Colonial at 4-1 ATS in their last five. This line says these teams pretty even, but that is not the case this season as the Monarchs’ ills continue. This was supposed to be the year that Fairfield did something special and rose out of the Metro Atlantic to be a factor in the NCAA Tournament. That still may happen, but the Stags’ level of play has certainly been far less than those expectations at 5-4. Their recent play is highly suspect with a loss to Indiana State on a neutral floor, and close calls vs. mediocre Metro Atlantic teams in Canisius and Niagara. Old Dominion beat the Big East's South Florida, and has played Kentucky to within 10. They have done so with very aggressive defense as no team has reached the 70-point mark against them through eight games.
