Central Florida Knights vs Old Dominion Monarchs Point Spread Picks

Old Dominion has had is days atop the Colonial Conference, but unfortunately this season will not be one of them. The Monarchs are off to a 1-8 start, with the lone win against Morgan State by just 11. They have a lot of issues on the offensive end where they are shooting less than 40% as a team. They go through long droughts, and don't have the closer in a tight game. They have been even more dreadful from deep, converting just 25.5% from beyond the arc. Since last season, ODU is just 1-7 straight-up vs. slow-down teams like UCF (teams that average under 54 shots per game). Central Florida comes in at 5-2 and have enjoyed back-to-back 20+ win seasons, and could challenge to make that three. The edge they bring here is five double-digit scorers and a true closer in Keith Calnton who averages 17.4 points per game and 10.9 rebounds per game. He will be the difference maker if things get tight. I like Central Florida on the moneyline.

Central Florida opened some eyes when they took down the UConn Huskies, knocking them out of the ranks of the unbeaten. Things haven't gone quite so well since then as the Knights have lost to Harvard by double-digits, and struggled at home vs. Bethune-Cookman, winning by just 2 points. Old Dominion has played a pretty solid schedule thus far, and playing Kentucky to a 10-point game shows that there is enough here to stay in this one for sure. The Monarchs have been a great bounce-back team, as they have posted a 9-2-1 ATS mark after a loss, while the Knights’ home struggles have carried them to a 2-8-1 ATS mark in their last 11 at home.
