The Chargers got rid of Norv Turner and that can only be a good thing for the Bolts as he perennially underperformed his talent. The problem for San Diego is that their window has already shut and Mike McCoy doesn’t inherit many weapons. Houston went 55-89 in their first nine seasons but after a 12-4 season last year, this team has its sights set on the playoffs and maybe a Super Bowl. Their strength is a good defense that finished 7th overall in the NFL last season. That defense should improve upon those numbers this season, as they get Brian Cushing back from his knee injury. They also signed Ed Reed to bolster the pass defense, however he is a game time decision following hip surgery. The Chargers offense is in decline, mainly because of the fall-off of Phillip Rivers. Rivers has played bad recently, becoming a liability throwing 35 interceptions and losing 12 fumbles the last two years. He has been personally responsible for 47 turnovers during the span. And it's not just about turnovers. His output has diminished as well, throwing for fewer passing yards last season than any of the previous five. The Chargers defense has Eric Weddle, and the signing of Dwight Freeney should give them someone that can supply pressure. The Chargers allowed just 20.2 ppg in their final five home games last year. The problem for them is that they managed just 17.6 ppg on offense in the last five. Their four home games vs. winning teams produced 13.3 ppg, and there is no doubt Houston is a winning team. Early in the season, the Texans offense was good. Houston went for 30+ in six of their first eleven games last season but never reached the 30 mark thereafter. Chargers are 14-6 to the UNDER in their last 20 at home. Over the past couple of seasons, Houston is 19-9 to the UNDER in games played on grass. And under Gary Kubiak, they are 35-24 UNDER. Play the UNDER here.
