The much-improved New York Liberty defeated Phoenix, 85-83, on Sunday with Betnijah Laney scoring 23 points with seven rebounds and 10 assists. Jazmine Jones added 16 points and Sami Whitcomb contributed 14 against the Mercury as the Liberty has much more depth than last season. The Mercury was held to 38% shooting and 5 of 24 on 3-pointers. Laney is averaging 48.7% shooting and 5.4 assists. The Liberty look to avenge a 94-82 loss to Las Vegas on June 3, and the Aces are just 2-5 ATS their past seven games against teams with winning records.
