The New York Mets ownership put all the chips on the table to win it all this year. They had Verlander and Scherzer at the top of their rotation, but it didn't help. The Mets have been out of contention for a long time as the soaring payroll has been a complete bust. The LA Angels went all in at the trade deadline and kept Shohei Otani to make a wild card run. The result has been a total collapse as the Angels are a woeful 5-16 since the deadline. They have 15 players on the injured list, a hampered Mike Trout coming off a wrist injury, and now Ohtani has an elbow injury that will keep him off the mound for the rest of the season.
