Bet this race at Diamond SportsTop pick: #1 (RAGTIME BLUES) (2-1) - Colt is one of two entered by Bob Baffert and both are making their first starts. This $500,000 son of 'Union Rags'has the normal set of fast works, including a pair of swift drills Aug. 16 and Sept. 3 at Del Mar. Baffert wins at a 44% rate first out and I give this expensive yearling a slight edge.
2nd pick: #6 (Dean Martini) (5-1) - Price play shortens up in distance after tiring going a mile Aug. 28 at Del Mar against a tough group. $220K purchase had finished second sprinting at Ellis Park when debuting Aug. 4 and goes today with the addition of blinkers.
3rd pick: #4 (River Finn) (4-1) - The second of the Baffert runners, home bred by 'Pioneer of the Nile' is working steadily and had a near bullet 5 furlongs from the gate Sep 8 at Del Mar. Colt must be left in the mix.
4th pick: #5 (Temple Bar) (5-1) - He's moving up in class after finishing second going 5.5 furlongs at Del Mar for a $50K tag Sept. 1. He may grab a minor award, but faces a much tougher field than in his latest.
