LOSS

Boston has been battling a little bump, but this is still a good team. They are so much improved from a year ago under their new manager, John Farrell. Their former pitching coach has upgraded the pitching and their offense. Boston is 4th in runs scored, 2nd in on-base percentage, and second in slugging. Boston starter Ryan Dempster (2.93 ERA) has been a great addition, striking out 55 in 43 innings with only 29 hits allowed. He's already beaten Toronto, allowing one run in six innings. He has also never lost to them in 19 career innings against. Toronto is a bad team, stuck in last place with a weak offense and is forced to go with a kid pitcher here, Chad Jenkins. Jenkins gets the start after making just one minor league start with Double-A New Hampshire after coming off a shoulder injury. The 25-year-old faced the Red Sox back on Sept. 14, surrendering two runs on two hits and a walk over 1 1/3 innings.  Last season he went 1-3 with a 4.50 ERA over 13 games and three starts. The Blue Jays are 20-41 in their last 61 road games while the Red Sox are 22-7 against a team with a winning percentage below .400. Play the Red Sox.
