The season-ending injury to Chris Carpenter puts a lot of the onus on Jake Westbrook to have a big season. He has been impressive to this point, but he has horrible numbers against Pittsburgh for his career. Westbrook is a disappointing 1-7 with a 5.28 ERA vs. the Pirates who have his number. That includes 1-4 last season with a similar 5.12 ERA. The Pirates' starter Jonathon Sanchez, has not pitched well in a Pirates uniform, but then again he is 3-0 lifetime vs. the Cardinals. St. Louis also has bad numbers behind Westbrook to low totals, as they are 1-7 in his last eight starts to a total of 7-8.5. They are also 0-5 in his last five road starts vs. the Pirates. Play the home dog and go with Pittsburgh.
