WIN

BELK BOWL - Virginia finished the regular season at 7-5, but it could have been a lot better if not for two overtime losses against Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech to close the season. Quarterback Bryce Perkins set a single-season school record for total offense (3,314 yards) and total touchdowns (31). Perkins rushed for 842 yards, which was second on the team behind running back Jordan Ellis (920 yards). Olamide Zaccheaus led the receiving corps with 82 catches for 973 yards and six TDs. Also, Virginia was #24 in yards allowed (337.2 per game) and #27 in scoring defense (21.8 points per game). South Carolina is #66 in yards allowed (429.8) while allowing 27.2 points per game. The Cavaliers have motivation in this matchup as they were embarrassed, 49-7, by Navy in last year's Military Bowl, and the Gamecocks have a plethora of injuries on the defensive side. The Cavaliers have covered six of their last seven against teams with winning records and five of their last seven non-conference games dating to last season. The Gamecocks are led by QB Jake Bentley, who has a 63.9 percent completion rate and 2,953 yards with 27 TDs and 12 picks. However, he is up against a formidable Virginia secondary which ranked #14 in the country in passing yards allowed. South Carolina wide receiver Deebo Samuel leads the Gamecocks with 62 catches for 882 yards, but he's sitting out to prepare for the NFL draft. Play Virginia.
